Put into bat first, Captain Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle laid the foundation with a 122 runs opening stand. Gayle once again proved that why he is the most destructive batsmen in this shortest format of the game. He scored 77 off 38 balls. His innings included 7 sixes and 5 fours. Gayle also become the first batsman to score 10000 runs in T20 cricket. Kohli continued his good form with the bat and made 64 of 50 balls.

Travis Head and Kedar Jadhav remained unbeaten on 30 & 38 respectively and helped to post 213 on board. This is the the highest total of IPL 2017 so far. Bowlers once again disappointed the Gujarat Lions and the team management has to re-work on the bowling strategies if they have to progress in the tournament.

Gujarat Lions - 192/7 in 20 Overs

Defending the big score, Yuzvendra Chahal got early break through for Bangalore when he dismissed Dwayne Smith and Suresh Raina in his first two overs and reduced the hosts to 37-2. But Brendon McCullum smashed other bowlers and scored  a brilliant fifty. He added 66 runs for the third wicket with Aaron Finch before the latter was beaten in the air by Pawan Negi and stumped.

McCullum carried on to make 72 before he became Chahal’s third victim in the bowler’s final over. Despite Ishan Kishan’s late heroics – the teenager smashed 39 from 16 balls, the Gujarat Lions could only reach 192-7. For RCB, the leg-spinner Chahal finished with figures of 3-31.
