Late Charles Bannerman played only 3 Test matches for Australia but holds some very interesting records. Known for his stylish batting, Bannerman scored the first test century for Australia.

In the very first international test match played between Australia and England at Melbourne Cricket Ground in March 1877, he opened the Australian batting. Bannerman stood out as highest scorer in this historic match.

# He faced the first ball ever bowled in Test cricket. The bowler was Alfred Shaw of England 


​# He scored the first ever run in Test cricket. He also later hit the first ever boundry in a test match.


# He was the first player to score a century on debut. He scored 165*, out of Australia's total of 245 before being retired hurt as his finger was broken on a ball from George Ulyett.


# Till date he is the only centurion debutant to be retired hurt.
