M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story is a 2016 Indian biographical sports film written and directed by Neeraj Pandey. Based on the life of Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the film stars Sushant Singh Rajput in the title role, along with Disha Patani, Kiara Advani and Anupam Kher. 

The film was well received critically and commercially. It was among the top 5 highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2016 in India.The movie chronicles the life of Dhoni from a young age and the series of life events that finally culminates to his stardom in the realm of cricket.

 

2. Lagaan

A timeless classic, Lagaan was the third Indian film to be nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film after Mother India (1957) and Salaam Bombay (1988). 

It was one of the biggest box office hits of 2001. Written and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker, the film stars Aamir Khan, who was also the producer, Gracy Singh, British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne. It was one of the biggest box office hits of 2001. In 2011, it was listed in Time magazine's special "The All-TIME 25 Best Sports Movies". 

The story revolves around a small village whose inhabitants, burdened by high taxes, find themselves in an extraordinary situation as an arrogant British officer challenges them to a game of cricket as a wager to avoid the taxes.

 

3. Iqbal

Made on a small budget, the movie was a smash hit at the box-office and also received the National Film Award for Best Film on Social Issues. The movie was critically acclaimed for its brilliant story and powerful performances by Naseeruddin Shah and Shreyas Talpade.

Directed by Nagesh Kuknoor, the story follows a cricket-obsessed deaf and a mute boy from a remote Indian village as he aims to overcome hi difficulties and become a cricketer and fulfil his dream of playing for the Indian national cricket team.

 

4.Ferrari ki Sawaari

A heartwarming story of a small boy and his passion for cricket and how his father wants to give him the best to achieve his dreams.The movie was successful at the box-office and received good critical reviews for its storyline and performances. 

Directed by Rajesh Mapuskar, the film features Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Ritvik Ashore

 

5. Jannat

Directed by Kunal Deshmukh, the movie was a huge success worldwide, receiving positive response from critics and managing to do well at the box office. The movie was based on match fixing where the central character of the movie was shown involved in gambling, and soon becomes a cricket bookie. It further delves into how his greed for money took him into crime.

Emraan Hashmi played the lead character in the movie. Produced by famous Vishesh banner, the movie also featured Sonal Chauhan opposite Hashmi.
